Alka's July Camping Theme
July's Camping Theme was probably one of the most fun, busy and adventurous themes we've had to date! There were many fun projects, activities and experiences throughout this unit!
One of the things we talked about all throughout the month was "camouflage". We used camouflage colors to paint our tents, our canteens, tie dye our shirts and even camouflage our faces for our scavenger hunt day! The month started with books and Circle Time talk about bears (claws, paws, caves, cubs, what they eat, etc.) Next we focused on raccoons and snakes. We learned that raccoons are nocturnal and how they go through everything to find food! The raccoon eyes and slithering snakes were great Circle Time fun moments :) We also talked about fireflies and ants. "The ants go marching one by one" was our theme song and flashlight fireflies was a really fun activity (esp. in our tents!). Some of the favorite things shared were a compass and a pocket knife! "Only grownups can use and open knives" was the rule but the fascination of a tiny knife that folds and fits in your pocket was a great treat for them to see and share. We read many camping books about all of the materials you need going camping, camping foods, different tent styles and all of the various campsite information was truly a great education experience for our Toddlers.
